Q: Who is AutoGen and what do you do?

A: AutoGen is a privately owned value added distributor of automated sample preparation devices. We focus primarily on automated nucleic acid extraction systems.

Q: What products does AutoGen distribute?

A: AutoGen distributes products manufactured by two companies. Kurabo Biomedical (Osaka, Japan) makes our large floor model systems, including our premier product the FLEX STAR, which is an automated large volume Whole Blood extraction system. Kurabo Biomedical also makes the QuickGene line of bench top nucleic acid extraction systems based on a membrane cartridge. Diasorin (Dublin, Ireland) makes the Arrow, which is magnetic bead based.

Q: Where does AutoGen do business?

A: AutoGen markets products primarily in North America, Europe and the Middle East. Currently we are gradually expanding our business to South America and Australia.

Q: What does AutoGen mean by “Prep with Confidence”?

A: It is our mission to supply our customers with the most practical, reliable systems available and back them with service and support that is second to none in the DNA sample preparation and extraction business. We want our customers to be confident both in the results our systems provide and the support that we provide.

Q: How do I get more information about your company and your products?

Q: Who uses AutoGen’s preparation systems?

A: Our customer list reads like a Who’s Who of the major research and medical centers in the USA. Our systems are in use at the NIH campus and at major research oriented universities like, MIT, Harvard, Columbia, Cornell, the University of Michigan, the Universities of California, and many others. Major Medical Centers like the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, the University of Chicago Medical Center, and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia also use AutoGen systems.

FLEX STAR FAQs

Q: What type of samples can I run on the FLEX STAR?

A: Fresh and Frozen Whole Blood, Buffy Coat, Various Animal/Human Tissues and Cells, Oragene•DNA Collected Saliva and Mouthwash.

Q: What is the throughput of the FLEX STAR system?

A: 10-30 samples can be loaded to the system per run, 90 samples can be run per day.

Q: What is the minimum and maximum number of samples that the FLEX STAR can process per batch?

A: Samples can be loaded in batches of 10, 20 or 30 per run.

Q: What extraction chemistry is used on the STAR?

A: The FlexiGene chemistry made by Qiagen. This is a completely buffer-based chemistry that does not employ beads or columns. It is a superior chemistry that effectively removes all contaminates including RNA.

Q: Does the STAR have sample tracking capability?

A: Yes. The STAR has a sample tracking and reporting package and the data can be transmitted to a LIMS system.

Q: Can the user of the FLEX STAR select the final elution volume?

A: Yes. Final elution volume is user programmable with a minimum of 50ul.

Q: What are the dimensions and power requirements of the FLEX STAR?

A: The dimensions are 28W x 30D x 60H (inches). Voltage requirements are 120-240VAC (single phase), 50/60Hz, 12A. Weight is 530 lbs.

Q: Is the FLEX STAR CE certified?

A: Yes. The FLEX STAR is CE certified.

Q: Who supplies the consumables and service for the FLEX STAR?

A: All supplies necessary to operate the FLEX STAR are warehoused at AutoGen and are shipped by AutoGen. Technical support and maintenance service are provided by AutoGen personnel.

GENE PREP FAQs

Q: What type of samples can I run on the GENE PREP?

A: Plasmid/BAC cultures for DNA, various types of animal tissues and cells including mouse tails, and various types of plant tissues.

Q: What is the throughput of the GENE PREP system?

A: The system can run up to 48 samples in as little as 2 hours. The optional sample stacker allows the user to run up to 192 samples in 8 hours completely unattended.

Q: What is the minimum and maximum number of samples that the GENE PREP can process per batch?

A: You can load from 8 to 48 samples on the GENE PREP. With the optional sample stacker you can load from 48 to 192 samples.

Q: Can I select the final elution volume of the GENE PREP?

A: Yes. Final elution volume is user programmable with a minimum of 50ul..

Q: What are the dimensions and power requirements for the GENE PREP?

A: The dimensions of the GENE PREP are 28.3W x 26.4D x 60.4H (inches). Power requirements are 15 amps, 120-240VAC, 50/60 Hz.
